Trigger Warning: Rape, murder.

I'm a sucker for a good true crime story, and "I'll be Gone in the Dark" does not disappoint. This is as much about pure investigative journalism and the relentless pursuit of the truth as it is about the dark sides of a serial killer. I generally avoid crime books that include sexual violence, and while this book has some dark details, I couldn't put it down. This story is equally about its author, Michelle McNamara, who was mesmerized by this case for years and years. I'm already waiting for the documentary series.

Amazingly, this book was published posthumously two years after the author unexpectedly passed away. Then, just last year, the case was solved by DNA evidence.
