I Have a Bookshelf!

With the refresh of this site, I’ve added a bookshelf featuring books I’ve read. I’m still tinkering with the overall design and slowly adding notes for each book, but it’s already bringing me so much joy.

The editorial rule for my bookshelf is simple: “I have read this and genuinely recommend it.” This isn’t meant to be a catalog of every book I’ve read. It’s a trusted list of books that have helped or inspired me in my career and life.

I believe poetry, fiction, biography, psychology, and philosophy can reveal as much about leadership as almost any management book. My lens isn’t, “Is this about management or leadership?” It’s, “Did this deepen my understanding of people, leadership, creativity, craft, or a well-lived life?”

My next project is to annotate each book’s page with a few brief notes about why it belongs on my bookshelf. I plan to include things like:

  • Why I recommend it
  • What it changed in my thinking
  • Who it’s especially useful for
  • A limitation or tension worth knowing about

I’ve been reading more this year, including much more fiction and memoir. I love settling into a good reading chair and escaping into the pages of a book. Lately, I’ve been reaching for physical books more often. They’ve been such a welcome break from screens, and I even recently renewed my library card.

More book posts will follow, I’m certain.

In the meantime, you can browse the bookshelf, and if there’s a book you think belongs there, I’d love to hear about it.
