On Experiments

I believe in the power of small experiments as a way to start habits and introduce changes. I like to bring new things into my daily routines and see how they unfold. I enjoy trying new things and adopting new ideas.

I'm trying a new experiment this quarter. I re-installed email, Slack, and Twitter on my phone with 20-minute daily limits. It takes self-will to adhere to the limits, which is the experiment.

I have an on-again, off-again relationship with technology. I desire to be more focused and present in my life. My fascination is with the back and forth. I don’t fight it. I flip-flop from disconnecting, to the chaos of inputs and desires when I plug back in. Like a pendulum, I swing to the extremes, and I then work to find balance. In some moments, it's a struggle to not press the "Ignore Limit" link, and then it's a victory when I don't press it.

I try to be gentle with myself. It's an experiment, after all.
