5 Things: Time, Photosets, and Museums

Here’s what grabbed my attention this week. A little reading, a little building, two documentaries I can’t wait to see, and some time in a museum. Friday at Five.

• Your Perception of Time Is, in Fact, Warped, by Mike Mariani, Noema. Why does it feel like the years keep speeding up? This piece explores how our sense of time is tied to memory: routine and endless scrolling can leave us with fewer distinct moments to look back on, making whole stretches of life feel compressed. It also makes a case for the quiet, even boring moments that give us room to reflect and form memories. A good reminder to leave a little space in the day.

• Photosets and Learning to Share Again. I’ve been having so much fun building this site. The newest addition is photos! I wrote a little about finding my way back to sharing them, and the photosets are here. I’m still tinkering with how best to show the images. I want the experience to feel more immersive, with room to spend a little time with each photo. More to come, for sure.

• You Can See Everything. I truly can’t wait for this Elizabeth Holmes documentary. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim are directing, which only makes me more curious. The teaser is enough. I’m in.

• An Everest documentary. And while I’m on the topic of documentaries, I also can’t wait for this one. I am certain I have seen every climbing, mountaineering, and endurance movie ever made. Apparently there is always room for one more.

• Matisse’s Femme au chapeau: A Modern Scandal. Museums! I was in SF for a brief trip and got to SFMOMA. Such a treat to see the Matisse exhibit, but the Agnes Martin works in the permanent collection always win my heart. I could spend a lot of time there.
