5 Things: Thomas Crown, Telepathy, and Audiobooks

Here’s what grabbed my attention this week. A movie I can’t wait to see, a podcast I can’t stop listening to, a peek inside an audiobook studio, and a little technology excitement and exasperation. Friday at Five.

  • The Thomas Crown Affair. I am truly excited for this remake. The Thomas Crown Affair is a movie I have watched again and again. There must be some universal rule that says you have to watch it whenever it’s on, right? And Michael B. Jordan? Say no more.

  • The Telepathy Tapes. After so many friends suggested this podcast to me, I have finally become engrossed in it. On my homepage, I have a bullet point that reads, “I believe in dreams and mysticism.” That’s the toned-down version of what I believe, but it seemed like a safe sentence for a homepage where I attract executive leaders. Listening to this podcast reminds me that I actually believe in so, so much more about consciousness, the afterlife, and beyond. Truly fascinated by this. If you are skeptical, I encourage you to just listen.

  • Watch (and Hear) a Buzzy New Novel Become an Audiobook, The New York Times (subscription may be required). We recorded our audiobook in June in Montreal, and we’ll be releasing it in October. This look inside the recording process was so, so interesting.

  • Apple Watch Ultra 4. My new Ultra arrived today. I am looking forward to the new health sensors and the redesigned Health app coming later this year. I love my Ultra.

  • AI safety and accountability. Between this Axios story and this one from CNBC, I don’t know… maybe the dudes who created and currently lead the problem shouldn’t be the ones responsible for, or trusted with, coming up with a way to solve it? And maybe technology that was built by stealing and lying is going to, ummm, steal and lie? Each story about the end of humanity due to AI is terrifying and maddening, and it sure seems like there is an article every day lately. Every billionaire lining up to prevent regulation and pacing should be fired. But hey, at least everyone is shipping more PRs…ugh.
