High Output Management
Why I recommend it
I’ve read this one a handful of times. It is an essential book for managers and leaders, but its real strength is showing anyone on a team how to improve the system around their work.
What stayed with me
Management is leverage. A manager’s output comes through the work of the team, so meetings, decisions, and one-on-ones matter when they help other people do better work.
Who it’s useful for
New and experienced managers, team leads, and individual contributors who want to make the way their team works more effective.
A tension or limitation
Its language can feel mechanical when applied too literally to human work. The operating principles are strongest when paired with judgment, trust, and care for the people inside the system.
