Why I recommend it
Pollan brings curiosity, history, and careful reporting to a subject usually flattened into either hype or fear. I recommend it less as an argument for psychedelics than as an invitation to take consciousness, healing, and human change seriously.
What it changed in my thinking
It expanded my sense of how much the mind’s usual patterns shape what feels fixed or true. For coaching and leadership, that reinforces the value of creating conditions where people can loosen an old story, see themselves differently, and choose with more freedom.
Who it’s useful for
Readers curious about psychology and consciousness, coaches interested in how perspective shifts, and leaders thinking about identity, meaning, and durable behavior change.
A tension or limitation
The compelling personal stories can make transformation feel more universal or accessible than it is. Psychedelics carry medical, legal, and psychological risks, and insight still has to be integrated into ordinary life.
