Why I recommend it

I recommend this examination of how power changes people and how institutions can be designed to resist corruption. It brings behavioral evidence to a subject often reduced to good and bad character.

What it changed in my thinking

It reinforced that integrity cannot depend only on finding exceptional individuals. Healthy systems make scrutiny normal, distribute power, and reduce the rewards for abusing it.

Who it’s useful for

Founders, executives, board members, and anyone designing governance or trying to understand how authority alters behavior.

A tension or limitation

Structural safeguards matter, but no design removes the need for moral judgment. Rules can constrain power without guaranteeing courage or care.
