Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind

Why I recommend it

I return to the idea of beginner’s mind because it makes curiosity a practice. Suzuki’s teachings invite openness even after expertise has given us reasons to believe we already know.

What it changed in my thinking

It helped me value being a happy, perpetual beginner. In leadership and creative work, that posture creates room to notice what certainty would otherwise hide.

Who it’s useful for

Meditators, makers, leaders, and anyone trying to recover curiosity inside a practice they know well.

A tension or limitation

Beginner’s mind does not mean ignoring expertise. Openness is most useful when it can meet knowledge without becoming trapped by it.
