The End of Your Life Book Club
Why I recommend it
I recommend this tender memoir about a mother and son using books to accompany one another through illness, memory, and approaching death. Their informal two-person book club creates a language for subjects that might otherwise be too difficult to approach directly.
What stayed with me
Reading together can be a form of care. A shared book gives people somewhere to meet while time is narrowing and opens conversations larger than either reader could have planned.
Who it’s useful for
Book-club readers, caregivers, people grieving a parent, and anyone interested in the relationships that form around a shared reading life.
A tension or limitation
The memoir’s warmth does not make illness or dying orderly. Its family’s access, habits, and way of talking through books are particular rather than a model every reader can or should reproduce.
