The Hard Thing About Hard Things
Why I recommend it
I recommend this for its honesty about leadership when every available choice has a cost. It does not pretend that a framework can remove the loneliness, uncertainty, or consequence from running a company.
What it changed in my thinking
It reinforced that leadership is revealed when the playbook stops working. In those moments, the job is to face the actual situation, make the decision, and communicate without hiding behind optimism.
Who it’s useful for
Founders, executives, and leaders carrying decisions about survival, people, or strategy that do not have clean answers.
A tension or limitation
The intensity of venture-backed technology can make extreme conditions seem universal. Not every organization should adopt wartime language or normalize constant crisis.
